Today UPSC has published official notification for civil services(Preliminary) examination  to be conducted on August 23, 2015.

Now it is official that only marks scored in General Studies paper – 1 will be considered in Preliminary exam to determine one’s eligibility to write Mains exam. Whereas General Studies paper – 2 (CSAT) is made qualifying – which means, one must score minimum marks in this paper too i.e. 33% to qualify for Mains but whose marks won’t be considered to finalise the list of candidates eligible to write Mains exam.

“The Commission will draw a list of candidates to be qualified for Civil Service (Main) Examination based on the criterion of minimum qualifying marks of 33% in General Studies Paper-II of Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination and total qualifying marks of General Studies Paper-I of Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination as may be determined by the Commission.”

Other highlights:

1) Number of questions will be 100 ( there was rumour that number questions would be increased) in General Studies Paper – 1 and each paper is for 200 Marks

2) Irrespective of age, those who had given 2011 exam are given one more chance to write this exam in 2015
